Good Morning Boston

Got up before the roosters.  Alarm went off at 3 am.  After a shower and some coffee, we started feeling somewhat human.  Did our last minute run around the house and ran down our check list. All good.  Our driver, Ken, was at the door a little before 4.  A relatively quick trip to the airport and arrived at promptly at 5.  We now have Global Entry.  This was our maiden voyage with the pass.  So far all it afforded us at the TSA check-in was no shoe removal.  Hopefully, we will see some advantage getting back into the country at customs.

We are now sitting at in the British Airways lounge at Logan.  Yesterday I decided to bite the bullet and upgrade our seats to business class.  I have been having some problems between my back and my knee and the thought of traveling for 24 hours was bad enough, let alone sitting on a plane for 18 of those hours.  Fortunately, there were two seats left and the price was half of what it was when I originally booked way back when. I think these are semi-sleepers. We'll find out soon enough.  Along with the primo seats, you are allowed access to their lounge which is always a real plus  -- so civilized.

Almost time to board -- next stop London.

WOW we will forever be spoiled by business class.  First you are greeted with a glass of champagne.  Initially we had seats facing each other which we switched for two inside seats side-be-side -- you raise the partition on either side and you have your own little room.  Very cozy.
After a movie and some smoked salmon with herb crusted fish for brunch we settled in for a nap.  Yes the seats recline a full 180 degrees into a bed complete with very plush bedding.  Business Class has certainly improved since the last time we got upgraded.  I soon discovered that with enough Mimosas (because I switched to OJ and champagne since it was only 9 am after all), I really had no need for all the anti-anxiety meds I brought!  We had a very smooth, comfortable flight and landed right on time.

Heathrow is a very busy airport especially this time of night -- it is about 8 pm now.  Fortunately, we are far away from the maddening crowds being pampered in the lounge.  Goodnight from London.

Next time:  Waking up in Cape Town
